Bangalore. QS I-GAUGE, India’s independent educational institution rating and assessment system, has launched two key reports on AI adoption and readiness in the country’s education sector, providing a wide array of suggestions for implementation and consideration. The reports, based on extensive national surveys, included one on AI adoption in the higher education space and another on AI integration in schools from the perspective of teachers.
The first report titled ‘AI Adoption in Indian Higher Education: Faculty Perspective Report 2026’ assessed the perceptions of AI adoption and usage among teaching professionals. The second report ‘The QS I-GAUGE AI Integration in School Education: Teacher Perspective Report 2026’ evaluated the institutional readiness of K-12 schools in integrating Artificial Intelligence.

Higher Education Report
The study on AI adoption in higher education captured the diverse institutional demographics to provide a deeper understanding of India’s academic response to AI adoption. The study focused on faculty because they were responsible for connecting new technology to actual student learning.
Faculty data was collected from 27 states and Union Territories across 146 higher education institutions, offering university leaders and policymakers an empirical foundation for future action. As Indian universities strive to balance rapid innovation with academic integrity, this report underscored that technology cannot replace the core human element of higher learning. Moving forward, institutional success will depend not merely on adopting software, but on empowering faculty with structured upskilling, clear ethical parameters, and robust enterprise support.

School Education: Teacher Perspective Report
The second report titled ‘The QS I-GAUGE AI Integration in School Education: Teacher Perspective Report 2026’ presented findings from a comprehensive pan-India survey. Its primary objective was to evaluate the institutional readiness of K-12 schools in integrating Artificial Intelligence.
90% of teachers maintain that AI literacy should be systematically introduced across all school levels in age-appropriate ways.
Prior to wider adoption, teachers identified faculty usage protocols (74%), cyber safety (70%), and academic integrity frameworks (69%) as the top three policy domains requiring immediate institutional prioritisation.
91% of teachers emphasise the necessity for institutions to establish clear parameters defining permissible contexts and boundaries for student AI use in academic work.
Demonstrating strong organisational willingness, 86% of teachers indicate that their schools are prepared to provide structured professional development programs focused on responsible and effective AI utilisation.
When identifying current operational priorities for school adoption, teachers highlighted student learning support (83%), teacher productivity enhancement (75%), and personalised learning frameworks (58%) as the three primary focus areas.
In terms of upskilling requirements, teachers identified AI-assisted lesson planning (74%), subject-specific pedagogical integration (73%), and assessment and feedback mechanisms (70%) as the most beneficial training domains.
Assessments of institutional readiness reveal a fragmented landscape, with 25% of schools having initiated structured AI implementation, 25% remaining in an exploratory phase, and only 13% achieving advanced, system-wide integration.
Teachers report that parental apprehensions regarding school-wide AI adoption centre primarily on student data privacy and security (cited by 77%), cognitive overdependence on automated tools (cited by 77%), and the escalation of overall screen time (cited by 76%).
